About the event

In honor of 'The Month of Love' we proudly present director Ernst Lubitsch's THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER . . .

Alfred Kralik (JIMMY STEWART) and Klara Novak (MARGARET SULLAVAN) are fellow employees at Matuschek & Co., a general store in Budapest, Hungary.

It seems that Klara and Alfred are constantly at odds with each other, butting heads and disagreeing on almost everything.

However, both are particularly enamored of their respective pen pals, who serve as welcome distractions in their lives.

Little do they know, they are each the other's pen pal and, despite outward differences, have unwittingly fallen in love through their letters.

ABOUT "'THE BACKLOT' at HERITAGE HOUSE ARTS & CIVIC CENTER

'The Backlot' was conceived in February of 2013 as a mixer designed to connect cinema buffs of all stripes, be they film-lovers or film-makers.

Typical activities at ‘The Backlot’ include screenings of classic films and (when we are lucky enough to 'catch them between films':-), featured speakers from the motion picture industry.

Anyone with a passion for classic cinema and/or an interest in learning more about what goes on behind, or in-front-of the camera, is welcome at ‘The Backlot’. Admission is free to the general public.

* ‘The Backlot’ takes place every 3rd Monday of the month (weather & national holidays permitting! :-)

** Doors open at 6:00pm for an optional & informal potluck downstairs.

(Attendees may bring a simple side, mocktail beverage or snack to share.)

*** Screenings / presentations begin at 7pm and are usually followed by a brief Q&A.

**** (FINAL NOTE: On those very special evenings at which there is a guest speaker from the film production community, plenty of ‘relationship-building time' is made available both before and after the main event.

Talent & crew members attending are thus encouraged to bring business cards and/or headshots with which to exchange information for possible future collaboration opportunities.)
